Terra Levis - Wiesbadener Bestattungswald

Wiesbaden's first funeral forest, TERRA LEVIS, was established in the middle of the Frauenstein city forest in 2013. Here, the state capital followed the wishes of many citizens to be able to find their final resting place under a tree without a clear rite and in the cycle of all growth and decay. Many beautifully grown, often hundred-year-old beeches, oaks and pines stretch their crowns into the sky here.

An urn grave in TERRA LEVIS is a decision for nature - the forest takes care of the grave itself. Mourning is also different here, which could be due to the meaningful and name-giving Latin funeral liturgy that the ancient Romans gave to their departed: 'Sit tibi terra levis' - May the earth be light to you!

The TERRA LEVIS site currently covers twenty-five hectares. The closest cemetery to nature in Wiesbaden is maintained by foresters and can be reached via the TERRA LEVIS parking lot on the L3441 country road between Frauenstein and Georgenborn.

Here, the ashes of the deceased are interred in a biodegradable urn at the roots of a selected tree. These trees can be used to create individual and family graves as well as burial sites for entire groups of friends. As an attractive exception, the right to use tree graves is guaranteed for 99 years.

Directions
TERRA LEVIS can be reached by public transport on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Further information can be found in the AST 24 timetable for the burial forest.
