School social work at elementary school - structure of services

How school social work, as part of youth welfare, offers preventative support for pupils and their families through a variety of services and collaborations.

Crafted shoe box as a classroom containing seven figures made of wood and wool. Five children are sitting around a table. A standing child is holding up a sign that reads "What does school social work do at elementary school?" The school social worker to the right of the child has written "Lots of great things, take a look..." on her sign.

Structure of school social work services at elementary school

School social work for children has been a valuable youth welfare service offered by the Wiesbaden Office for Social Work since 1990. It forms the bridge between school and youth welfare and always focuses on the well-being of the child. Through various group offers and support programs, the school social workers support the children in their development into independent and socially competent personalities. In close cooperation with the schools and other partners, they offer help with educational issues and school problems. The services are individually tailored to the needs of the children and their families to ensure the best possible support.

Our services:

  • Year-related class support during school hours
  • Transition support in Year 1 "Starter Club" (nursery->primary school) and in Year 4 "Fit for Year 5" (primary school->secondary school)
  • Cooperation with the school and institutions in the district
  • Specialist advice for teachers, for example on child protection
  • Individual support for children in the form of socio-educational afternoon activities
  • Competence development program (KEP)
  • Vacation activities such as sleepovers, excursions and vacation projects
  • Advice for parents and guardians on general educational and life issues

The wide range of services offered by the children's school social work team enable pupils to receive help and support at an early stage and have a positive impact on their entire school career. Cooperation with parents and guardians is essential and contributes to a successful outcome.
