Medenbach community center
The new Medenbach community center was opened on January 20, 2018. With its attractive outdoor area, it connects the old village center with the new development areas.
In 1977, the now demolished Medenbach community center was inaugurated. With 1300 square meters of usable space, the people of Medenbach had extensive facilities at their disposal in the "concrete style" of the time.
There was also a large restaurant, which was very popular for a long time. When there was a change of tenant, it was not possible to build on the previous success. Over the years, the premises proved to be out of date. Extensive defects meant that refurbishment was not an alternative to a new building. Until then, the building had been largely unused and was demolished before construction of the new building began. This was not only intended to replace the old community center, but the local administration and the volunteer fire department were also to move into the new building.
The new Medenbach community center
The ground-breaking ceremony took place in 2016, with the opening on January 20, 2018. More than 4.85 million euros were invested by the city in the construction of the community center.
The building is around 48 meters long, 19 meters wide and has one to two storeys due to its hillside location. An elevator system enables barrier-free access to all levels. The fire department's vehicle hall and other functional rooms are located in the basement, with offices and training rooms on the upper floor. The local administration also has its offices on the upper floor.
The ground floor civic hall with a glazed foyer has a total area of 270 square meters and can be divided into two rooms.
The new community center with its parking spaces and an attractive outdoor area, next to a children's daycare center and sports facilities with a sports home as well as a small, newly built playground connect the old village center with the new development areas.
