Animal and plant park Fasanerie
The state capital of Wiesbaden operates the near-natural animal and plant park Fasanerie in the north-west of the city. The 25-hectare site between Aarstrasse and Klarenthaler Strasse, once an enclosure for princely hunts, is now a popular destination for those seeking relaxation.
It is said that stroking and feeding a goat can have an extremely calming and decelerating effect on us. So how good that you can do just that at the Fasanerie in Wiesbaden.
Once an enclosure for princely hunts, the Fasanerie animal and plant park in the north-west of the city is now also a nature education center and a popular excursion destination for young and old. Surrounded by the forests, meadows and streams of the Taunus, the 25-hectare wildlife park offers relaxation and a nature experience for all the senses.
Ideal for escaping the stresses of everyday life and finding peace and relaxation with nature and animals. Over 40 native animal species are kept in the pheasantry, including mainly native wild and domestic animals - from sheep, goats, rabbits, wolves and foxes to bears and, of course, the pheasants that give the park its name. You can observe around 250 animals up close in largely natural habitats. The park also has a lot to offer in terms of landscape: Meadows, forests, bodies of water and native and exotic plants (including North American sequoias, for example) allow you to immerse yourself in a unique natural landscape.
New projects are also constantly being developed at the pheasantry: in June 2023, the pheasantry was named an "Ark Park" by the Society for the Preservation of Old and Endangered Livestock Breeds, as the pheasantry is actively involved in the conservation breeding of endangered domestic and livestock breeds. In April, Trude, Hilde, Margot and Rita - four Tauernschecken, a highly endangered breed of mountain goat - moved in. Last year also saw the opening of the new otter enclosure, which gives you a completely new perspective on the inhabitants through underwater panes and wooden walkways.
Admission is free, but a donation is welcome and crucial for the preservation of the pheasantry and its inhabitants. The pheasantry is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. until October and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from November.
Our tip for animal lovers: With your support, you can enable the 250 furry and feathered inhabitants of the pheasantry to live a species-appropriate and natural life in the park: The Förderverein Fasanerie offers animal sponsorships from 25 euros a year. As a thank you, you will receive a certificate, be named on the sponsorship board in the Fasanerie store and have the exclusive opportunity to be very close to your sponsored animal on Animal Sponsorship Day. An animal sponsorship is also an excellent gift.
