Opelbad outdoor pool on the Neroberg

In addition to bathing fun, the Opelbad offers plenty of relaxation and a fantastic view over the city.

Opelbad outdoor pool with a view of the city

It is the outdoor pool with probably the most beautiful view in Germany. Even from the pool, up here on the south side of the Neroberg, you can enjoy a dream view of Wiesbaden - and of the vineyards that stretch down the slope just below the pool. The level of the pool was raised specifically for this effect during the last major refurbishment in 2018.

The best place to swim here is on the terraced sunbathing lawns - the higher you set up camp, the better you can see the three lilies at the bottom of the pool: the town has also chosen to display its coat of arms underwater. Underwater spotlights ensure that they change color from time to time.

The fact that the town can boast a swimming pool in this dream location is thanks to Privy Councillor Wilhelm von Opel. Together with his four brothers, he ran Adam Opel KG and turned the company into one of the most successful German car manufacturers.

After moving to Wiesbaden, he donated 100,000 Reichsmark to the city and gave it an additional loan for the construction of a "swimming and sunbathing pool" on Wiesbaden's local mountain. The Opelbad was opened in 1934, even then in a light and elegant design that suggests echoes of the Bauhaus.

Among Wiesbaden's swimming pools, the Opelbad is the all-rounder. Many guests come here at seven in the morning to get their day off to a sporty start, children love the non-swimmer's pool and the water slide and others don't go into the water at all, but simply enjoy the good food and the view of wine, water and Wiesbaden.
