The European elections took place on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

The electoral term is five years. The electoral area for the election of MPs from the Federal Republic of Germany is the federal territory. Each of the 16 federal states forms a constituency.

The Federal Republic of Germany accounts for 96 seats in the European Parliament. These are determined in the Federal Republic of Germany according to the principles of proportional representation.

Only (party) lists and no individual candidates are eligible for election. Federal lists (joint list for all federal states) or state lists for individual federal states can be admitted. The seat of the European Parliament is Strasbourg.

Voters have one vote. In the 2024 European elections, the voting age was lowered to 16 for the first time. This means that Germans and EU citizens who have reached the age of 16 on election day are eligible to vote.

The postal voting office in the polling station is only staffed six weeks before each election, but the above telephone number can also be reached outside of election times.
