It is possible to change your first name and/or surname. There are the following types of name change:

• Assume maiden name after divorce
• Adopting / revoking a joint married name / double name
• Change of name after naturalization or resettlement
• Change of name for a child, name of the other parent
• Change of name for a child after marriage of parents / stepparents
• Changing the order of first names
  If you have several first names, it is possible to change their order. Hyphenated first names must be retained.
• Change of name under public law
  A change of name under public law is possible in individual cases. It is only possible if there is an important reason within the meaning of the Name Change Act.
