goEast - Festival of Central and Eastern European Film
Since 2001, goEast has been transforming the state capital of Wiesbaden into one of the most important international venues for cinema from Central and Eastern Europe in April. From April 23 to 29, the 25th edition of the festival will once again show dramas, documentaries, comedies and satire from Eastern and Central Europe.
The competition offers a broad audience from Wiesbaden and the region the chance to get to know the highlights of current Central and Eastern European films. The films are shown in the original languages with English subtitles and, at the Caligari FilmBühne, with additional German subtitles. In 14 feature-length fiction and documentary films, the audience will take a look at the major and minor conflicts of our time. The outstanding productions of the past two years will fill the screens in our festival cinemas for a whole week. Visitors can talk to the filmmakers at the film discussions following each screening and every evening in the goEast Clubhouse in the Old Court.
Dialogue forum between East and West
goEast sees itself as a forum for dialog between East and West, but also as an actor and multiplier. Panels and workshops, film series and discussions, joint projects with other cultural and social institutions - the possibilities for creative interaction are manifold. With virtual reality projects and 360° films as an integral part of the program as well as the hybrid orientation of the festival since 2020, which promotes the integration of online program items, goEast also points the way conceptually.
The festival is a platform for networking, exchange and further education. Young filmmakers and children and young people from the region in particular benefit from the creative and educational focus of goEast.
Program
The goEast program is divided into various sections, each with its own profile. Central to this are the competition, which is divided into feature and documentary films, the symposium, the East-West Talent Lab, the portrait/homage (alternating annually), the bioscope and the specials. Each section is carefully curated, supported by festival correspondents and experts and - in the competition - nominated by a selection committee. The sections mix genres and film genres.
Outside the cinemas, goEast offers a varied program for which the festival collaborates with local and national partners, including Central and Eastern European cultural associations.
