The Vinothon leads past well-known wineries, historic sites such as Vollrads Castle and impressive monuments. The focus is not on the best times, but on the unique combination of sport, culture and enjoyment. In addition to the classic marathon route (42.2 kilometers), a half marathon distance is also offered (21.1 kilometers).

In addition to catering for athletes, wine tastings, always non-alcoholic, and local specialties will be served at twelve aid stations. For participants who carry their wine glass in a shoulder bag, these stops are an integral part of the route.

Start and finish at Henkell Castle

A shuttle bus takes you to the jetty in Biebrich, from where you take the ferry to Rüdesheim and continue on foot to the start. You run in starting groups with the Niederwald Monument behind you, vineyards to your left and the Rhine to your right. On the route, you pass Geisenheim, keeping Johannisberg Castle in view, and reach Vollrads Castle.

In Oestrich-Winkel, the view of Wiesbaden opens up before you pass the half-marathon mark in Hattenheim. Half marathon finishers travel by boat and shuttle bus from here back to Henkell Castle, where they celebrate with sparkling wine and regional delicacies.

For the marathon runners, the route continues via Erbach to Eltville am Rhein, through Walluf and flat along the banks of the Rhine to Schierstein harbor. The final ascent leads through Biebrich Palace Park to the cour d'honneur of Henkell Palace.
