Projects and initiatives
Whether village beautification or the construction of a new fire station - it is not least the projects and the commitment of the citizens in the district that make it vibrant.
Renovation of the shed at the museum
The old shed on the site of the former school (now a local history museum) is barely recognizable. Nothing of its dilapidation is still visible.
Most of the renovation work was carried out by volunteers. In the 900th anniversary year of Medenbach, the association hosted a "craftsmen's day" at the museum on June 3, 2007 and opened an old wainwright's workshop in the shed next to the historic village smithy.
Medenbach local history association places bench "Am Schwalbengraben"
In 2009, a bench was installed at one of the most beautiful viewing points in Medenbach, at the triangle near the Speierling trees.
The local history and heritage association decided on a sturdy and beautifully designed bench that invites walkers to take a rest. The bench under the impressive willow tree will hopefully remain undamaged and provide good service for a long time.
Village beautification
A donation to beautify the church forecourt in Medenbach made it possible to build a village fountain in 1993 and 1994. Every year, the village fountain is lovingly decorated by the countrywomen at Easter and Christmas time.
Expansion of the Medenbach local history museum
The museum has been housed in the former school in Neufeldstraße since 1996. The main focus of the exhibition is on exhibits relating to the former village way of life and archaeological finds from the district. There are also regular special exhibitions in the showcases. A former blacksmith's and wainwright's workshop and an old cobbler's workshop can also be visited.
By renting the former school hall on the first floor, the museum was able to expand extensively to include the post office, old village school, kitchen, children's room and historic restaurant.
The "Historische Gaststätte" serves as a meeting room for the association. However, it can also be used during museum opening hours and offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy a coffee and cake or a glass of cider. From time to time, a morning pint will also be offered from 11 am.
A visit is worthwhile on the 1st Sunday of every month from 3 to 5 pm (summer break), for groups also by appointment.
