The footpath to the south-east of Steinern Straße is overgrown with trees and bushes. As a result, the footpath is dark and very little light penetrates through the dense canopy onto the path.

There are two options for improving the lighting:

1. Adding additional lights to the existing streetlight poles: in order to improve the lighting with additional lights, the trees would have to be heavily pruned. However, this would damage the trees and jeopardize their preservation.
2. Stand-alone footpath lighting: If stand-alone footpath lighting were to be installed, the existing roots of the trees and shrubs would have to be severely interfered with. This would also jeopardize the preservation of the trees. In addition, the costs would be very high.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to provide additional lighting for the footpath for the reasons mentioned above. The situation can only be improved somewhat by pruning the large shrubs every year. We recommend using the sidewalk on the opposite side of the road as an alternative for this section in the dark. This is clearly visible and well lit.

New litter bins (red dots) will be installed on the two footpaths leading from Uthmannstraße to Römerfeld and Teufelssprung. The footpaths are often dirty because there are no bins there.

At the junction of Uthmannstrasse and Steinern Strasse, the sidewalk in front of the junction boxes has been repaired. Now everyone can walk or drive there again.

The "hedge maze" on the green space at Römerfeld was cut back to around one meter in 2023. It is now easier to see what is happening there. Many people were afraid to go for a walk there because the hedges were difficult to see, especially in the dark.

The second "Sampel Dialogue" was held in September to present the results of the workshop phase. In a pop-up café in front of the former bakery on Teufelssprung, an exciting and interesting exchange took place with the residents over coffee and cake about how the suggestions were incorporated into the planning. Other topics were also discussed in depth, such as what services are missing in the neighborhood and how people would like to live in the future.

As a "traffic experiment" to improve road safety, parking bans were introduced in the Römerfeld and Teufelssprung cul-de-sacs at the level of the central green axis to make it easier for pedestrians and cyclists to cross.

The KiEZ and the youth pavilion offered a colorful and creative supporting program for children and young people. The Castanea e. V. association provided participants with coffee and delicious cakes.

The series of workshops in February and March 2024 continued the dialog process that had begun in Sampel with two ideas workshops and two planning workshops. Important future topics of neighborhood development were discussed together with interested residents. The aim was to actively collect the ideas and visions of residents and exchange them directly with experts.

In the summer semester of 2023, architecture students at the Rhein-Main University of Applied Sciences worked on the Sampel under the supervision of Professor Leber. They considered how a housing estate built after the Second World War can be developed in a sustainable and future-proof way. The project was supported by the urban planning office, the environmental office and GWW. At the end of the semester, the three best projects were awarded the Böttiger Prize. This prize is awarded by the Wiesbaden Foundation. It honors particularly good architectural ideas from students at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences for projects in Wiesbaden.

On July 14, the kick-off event for the neighborhood development "Der Sampel im Dialog" took place around the Am Römerfeld 5 playground. The urban planning office, the environmental office and GWW provided information about the status of the plans and the planned dialog process, which was launched at the beginning of 2023.

Interested residents were invited to find out more at various stations. They were able to talk to experts, ask questions and make suggestions. The focus was on important topics of neighborhood development, such as the urban development concept, new mobility options and energy supply.
