Scholarships for "Freiräume - Project Scholarship International May Festival"
This is the fifth time that the International May Festival Project Scholarship, which was jointly launched by the Wiesbaden Cultural Office and the Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden in 2021, has been awarded, since 2024 with the additional title "Freiräume".
The artists are supported with up to 8,000 euros per grant for their projects and are also given the opportunity to present their results as part of the International May Festival. Applications for the 2025 funding round came from the fields of theater, dance, music, performance, installation and radio play.
A six-member jury of experts selected five promising projects from fourteen applications. The grants go to:
- Katharina Heißenhuber with Friends in public with the project "Walhalla, wer bist du?" (documentary theater)
Participants: Tülin Pektas, Katharina Heißenhuber, Georg Brenner
Date: Thursday, May 8, 7 p.m., Studio Staatstheater Wiesbaden, admission 18 euros, reduced 9 euros.
A panel discussion on Walhalla will take place on Tuesday, May 13, 8 pm, in the foyer of the Hessisches Staatstheater (with Lord Mayor Gert-Uwe Mende, among others).
- Moritz Buch with Redsloth Productions, Theater 3D and Artnurwo with the project "Memor-i-all - 80 years of liberation from what?" (video-sound-installation & performance)
Participants: Moritz Buch, Hannah Dickescheid, Frédéric Ecker, Beate Krist, Ann-Kathrin Pfahler, Manuela Pirozzi, Lilli Suckfüll
Dates: Performances on May 8 and 9, both at 7.45 pm in the Stadt- und Musikbibliothek in der Mauritius-Mediathek, admission 9 euros; video-sound installation from May 9 in the Stadt- und Musikbibliothek in der Mauritius-Mediathek during opening hours, free admission.
- Isidora Markovic with the project "Checkpoints" (participatory dance happening)
Participants: Isidora Markovic, Meilyn Kennedy, Lena Kunz, guests
Dates: Sunday, May 11 and Sunday, May 18, both 6 p.m., Zukunftswerk (2nd floor Luisenforum); Monday, May 12, 7.30 p.m. and Saturday, May 17, 11 a.m., both rehearsal stage Wartburg; admission 9 euros.
- Mareike Buchmann with the project "Leerstellen, eine Beschwörung" (performance)
Participants: Mareike Buchmann, Theresa Lawrenz, Mirko Danihel, Robert Krajnik
Dates: Tuesday, May 13, and Wednesday, May 14, both at 7 p.m., Wartburg; admission 18 euros, reduced 9 euros.
- Raquel Ramos with the project "Plié" (dance)
Participants: Raquel Nevado Ramos, Johannes Schropp, Carla Gonzalez Pérez, Clara Valdera Barbero, Juan Camilos Rojas Arevalo
Dates: Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23, both 7.30 pm, Wartburg, admission 18 euros, reduced 9 euros.

- Dorothea Hartmann and Beate Heine, directors of the Hessisches Staatstheater
- Maximilian Nickel, arranger and lecturer at the Wiesbaden Music Academy
- Dr. Philipp Schulte, Managing Director of the Hessian Theatre Academy and freelance author and dramaturge
- Franziska Domes, representative of the Wiesbaden Department of Culture
