The task of the city police is to maintain public safety and order in Wiesbaden. In addition to the statutory provisions such as the Hessian Law on Security and Order (HSOG), the "Hazard Prevention Ordinance of the State Capital of Wiesbaden" is applied in particular, which is intended to ensure that people in our city can live together in harmony.

The city police act in many areas both for other municipal departments and independently. In this context, it provides administrative assistance in matters of special use, commercial and restaurant surveillance, the law on the accommodation of mentally ill persons, youth protection regulations and also animal protection.

In their function as law enforcement officers, the uniformed surveillance officers first try to eliminate a disturbing situation through communication and by appealing to the perpetrator. If this is not successful, the appropriate powers are applied.

The structure of the municipal police allows special requirements to be met. The merging of municipal field services into the municipal police has considerable advantages, particularly in the supervision of major events (e.g. carnival, "wine week" or shooting star market) and spontaneous operational situations (e.g. lockdown measures for bomb disposal). There is also a focus on controlling the serving and sale of alcohol to children and young people.

In close cooperation with the state police, the state capital of Wiesbaden operates a video security system in the areas of Platz der Deutschen Einheit, the main railway station and the access routes to the cultural center.
