Building supervision is the responsibility of the state and is generally carried out by the lower building supervisory authorities of the municipalities and districts.

The lower building supervisory authorities work to ensure that the applicable regulations are complied with during the construction, modification, demolition, use, change of use and maintenance of buildings. Buildings and other structures must not pose a risk to life, health or the environment.

As building inspectors, we are an important part of the city administration and make a significant contribution to the safety and design of the city of Wiesbaden. We are competent and reliable partners for the construction process, mediate on an equal footing between different interests and see ourselves as responsible decision-makers.

The building inspectorate:

• issues building permits (demolition, new builds, conversions and changes of use),
• issues preliminary building permits,
• issues deviations, exemptions and exceptions,
• advises on public building law,
• monitors building projects for compliance with the relevant public law regulations,
• grants access to files,
• provides information from the building register,
• issues certificates of completion in accordance with the German Condominium Act (WEG),
• carries out inspections of temporary buildings,
