Extending a visa (tourists, patients, business people)

Foreign third-country nationals generally require a visa to enter and stay in the Federal Republic of Germany. This applies for short-term stays of up to 90 days (Schengen visa) and for long-term stays of more than 90 days (national visa).

The visa must be applied for at the German mission abroad (embassy or consulate general) in your home country before entering the country.

Extension at the foreigners authority

In special individual cases, Schengen visas can be extended if humanitarian, serious personal reasons or force majeure can be credibly proven.
