City of Wiesbaden" landscape conservation area

Since October 12, 2010, large parts of the undeveloped area in the Wiesbaden city area (outdoor area) have once again been protected by a landscape conservation area ordinance. Landscape conservation areas are legally binding areas in which special protection of nature and landscape is required.

The aim of the "City of Wiesbaden" landscape conservation area is to

  • to preserve, secure and restore the cultural landscape in its diversity and beauty and cultural-historical significance and use,
  • to preserve the contiguous forest areas as a habitat for animals and plants,
  • to safeguard watercourses and floodplains due to their particular importance for the biotope network and the performance and functionality of the ecosystem,
  • to ensure the development of the diversity, character and beauty of the landscape as an area of experience for landscape and open space-based recreation,
  • to preserve and develop parts of the landscape that are threatened in their existence, in particular orchards, hollow paths, terraces but also biotope networking structures.

The protected areas are divided into two zones. In Zone 1 areas, nature conservation has a higher priority than other uses, such as agriculture, leisure activities or gardening.

This zone is largely limited to the stream valleys and floodplains that are important in Wiesbaden, as well as the legally protected biotopes and biotope complexes and the climatically important cold and fresh air corridors for Wiesbaden. In Zone 2 areas, the various outdoor uses and nature conservation coexist on an equal footing.
