Square of German Unity
The Platz der Deutschen Einheit is an important place in Wiesbaden and characterizes the cityscape on Schwalbacher Straße.
Redesign: More space and function
In 2008, a competition was launched to redesign the square. The aim: to make the square more modern, more functional and more liveable.
The square was restructured, traffic was rerouted and a multi-purpose hall was built. Since 2014, this hall has complemented the area with a large supermarket, restaurants and service outlets.
Two spaces for different needs
The Platz der deutschen Einheit is divided into two sections. A neighborhood square on Bleichstraße and a city square between Bertramstraße and Schwalbacher Straße, which connects the Westend with the city center.
Neighborhood square
The neighborhood square is an important meeting point in the city center and for the Westend. A special highlight: the Wellritzbach stream, which had previously been piped, was opened up in 2015 and integrated as a natural stream. The square serves as a meeting point and a place for many people to spend time.
Town square
Another town square is to be created between the new hall and the Elly Heuss School. This is to be the link between the city center and Westend. The prerequisite for the redesign is the planned new building for the Elly Heuss School along Schwalbacher Strasse.
