Notify and certify death
A death must be reported to the registry office responsible for the place of death. If a person dies in hospital, the death must be reported to the registry office by the hospital administration.
If a person does not die in hospital, the death must be reported personally by a person who is obliged to do so.
This obligation applies to persons who lived in the same household as the deceased or in whose home the death occurred. Any other person who was present at the death or has knowledge of it is also obliged to do so. An authorized mortician can also report the death.
If a body is transported abroad, a corpse passport is required.
