Alternative private school

In addition to state schools, private schools offer an attractive alternative in the education system. As independent schools, they are run by e.g. church organizations, non-profit associations or other private institutions. They are on an equal footing with public schools and are subject to state school supervision. In Wiesbaden, school supervision is carried out by the State Education Authority for the Rheingau-Taunus district and the state capital of Wiesbaden.

In contrast to public schools, private schools are also financed by school fees, which are paid by the parents.

Alternative schools and supplementary schools

The Hessian School Act distinguishes between alternative schools and supplementary schools:

- Ersatzschulen assume the function of public schools and offer educational programs that correspond to those of state schools.

- Supplementary schools expand the existing educational offer with special courses or pedagogical concepts and thus enrich the diversity of the education system.
