Entitlement to assistance with living expenses in accordance with Chapter 3 of the Social Code Part XII (SGB XII) exists if the necessary living expenses cannot be met either from one's own resources (income and assets) and strength (use of labor) or with the help of others.
Entitlements to benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act or the Social Security Code Part II have priority and exclude assistance with living expenses under SGB XII.
It is granted temporarily or for a longer period - depending on the duration of the personal hardship of the person entitled to benefits. The amount of assistance for living expenses also depends on what is required in the individual case (need). Assistance is available in the form of cash and non-cash benefits as well as personal advice.
Documents
The following documents must be presented:
Identity card / passport
Current police registration confirmation (all persons in the household must be listed)
Tenancy agreement / subtenancy agreement / certificate of current rent level
Last utility bill
Last heating bill / ESWE statement
Pension certificates for all pension benefits / initial notification from the LVA or proof that there is no pension entitlement, last pension statement
Bank details and account statements for the last three months
Proof of health insurance or proof of application for voluntary health insurance
(if available) notice of employment SGB II
(if available) Severely disabled person's pass
(if available) Notice of grant of housing benefit
(if available) Savings books
(if available) Car registration certificate
(if available) Life insurance policies and policies of other insurances
